U.S. senator says splitting Google should be ‘on the table’

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar said today that the U.S. Department of Justice should consider asking Google to break up when it brings an antitrust lawsuit against search giant Google.

“In a major antitrust case like this, it’s important to have a break-up remedy on the table,” said Klobuchar, who is also the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate antitrust subcommittee. The statement was made in a speech to the American Bar Association.

Klobuchar, who has long been critical of Big Tech, has made clear he wants to tighten existing antitrust policies. She also noted that the current case against Google could expand to include other types of allegations.
