Tokyo, Japan and Berlin, Germany, February 24, 2021 – Renesas Electronics Group (TSE: 6723), a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, and LUPA-Electronics GmbH, a provider of in-vehicle safety solutions, today announced the Open front camera solution for R-Car V3H and R-Car V3M system-on-chip (SoC) – EagleCAM module. The all-in-one, scalable camera platform complies with the latest Euro NCAP and C-NCAP requirements and includes features such as automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keep assist and traffic sign recognition. The program enables OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to integrate their proprietary or third-party software to add more driving functions, thereby enabling product differentiation and upgrade expansion.
Most of the smart camera turnkey solutions on the market today use a black box approach, which makes it difficult for OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to respond to changing market demands and slows down the R&D process. With EagleCAM based on the R-Car SoC, Renesas Electronics and LUPA offer an open turnkey solution that provides flexible and high-performance sensing capabilities to help customers accelerate time-to-market and reduce BOM costs.
“The combination of LUPA’s EagleCAM and the Renesas R-Car SoC creates a scalable and functional safety-compliant open ADAS solution that enables customers to flexibly integrate rich functions,” said Naoki Yoshida, Vice President, Automotive Digital Product Marketing Division, Renesas Electronics. , and shorten the production time. We are very pleased that the cooperation will make it easier for our mutual customers to develop smart camera applications and bring NCAP and L2+ functions to vehicles faster and more adaptively.”
Benjamin May, CEO of LUPA-Electronics, said: “Demand for automotive safety solutions is at an all-time high. We are pleased to partner with Renesas Electronics to integrate the low-power, high-performance R-Car SoC into the EagleCAM smart camera platform. Features that allow OEMs to easily add new safety features and a comfortable driving experience to their next-generation vehicles. Our flexible approach shortens product development cycles while providing end customers with a safer and more fun driving experience.”
Based on the proven Renesas R-Car SoC, EagleCAM supports front camera applications from low-end to high-end, with functions such as surround view and driver monitoring. In addition to the R-Car SoC, EagleCAM has adopted Renesas Automotive Power Management IC (PMIC) to further reduce BOM cost. With the recent update of the R-Car V3H, the new turnkey solution supports up to 3.7 TOPS of CNN performance, ASIL-C level performance in the real-time domain, and cameras up to 8 megapixels. EagleCAM uses a pre-validated hardware design to reduce time to volume production. Customers can use a high-performance perception stack to shorten development cycles, or build on emerging technology stacks to best match their application needs.
Availability
EagleCAM cameras with R-CarSoC are now available from LUPA.
