DJI is working on a technology that will allow anyone with a smartphone to track drones that appear nearby, media reported. The announcement comes amid a broader push for data transparency in the drone industry. DJI said the tracking technology will be available to the public through a smartphone app.
It is reported that as long as Wi-Fi, users can use the app to identify the identification number of nearby drones and the location, altitude, speed and direction of the drone. DJI said the app, which could be launched next year, is still awaiting approval from the relevant regulatory authorities, and the new technology is designed to increase security.
In addition, DJI says its app is effective for drones that appear within a 1-kilometer range. It’s worth noting that the system works with all drones made in the past few years, not just those made by DJI, though the company has yet to finalize a list of compatible drones.
